STUDIO BRIEF 2 - ALPHABET SOUP - TYPEFACE CRIT

In our final crit for our typeface we sat with our partners who the typeface was for and other members of our year along with Amber and Simon. We put our final typefaces up on the wall and talked through the process of how we got to the final outcome. We then received feedback on our work and possible improvements and further work that could be done! 

When talking through my design ( top left ) i talked about how it represented Abi. I used capitals and alba super because they both showed that she was lively,bubbly and a big personality , not a quiet shy person. Not only this but after looking at what designers she was interested in they all used hand drawn fluid lines, this again suited the flow of the line. i then explained the reasoning behind the snail trail, this is because Abi has the nickname 'snail'. So i thought this could produce interesting visual ideas. 

In the crit the feedback was that the idea is good and it produced a strong visual piece of work. Also after explaining Abis personality they agreed it was a strong representation. People also thought that the snail trail could produce a interesting image by itself. Although some letters are easily readable and look interesting others are not eligible at all which is something i could work on, also i should try and use the letters to produce a word and not just create a similar type from scratch on illustrator ( the name card ). 

Evaluation  

I feel this project has been successful and i have produced a strong typeface that as a image by itself looks strong and very effective. I think i have developed each aspect of this project through various ideas that i have looked into in some detail, then came out with a combination of ideas to produce my final outcome. The strongest aspects of this project are the visual quality, the flow of the line through the letters and the fact that it describes Abi so well. 

      To improve this project i could of made the letters join in such a way that when creating a word every letter could be combined together, this would then make the typeface more adaptable and it could be used more than just a layout of a alphabet. I could also change some of the letters so that they are more eligible ( well, change the line going through the letters so from afar they can be read ). Because at the moment the i, j and k don't look much like the letters. To further the project i might look into creating a few words after editing the letters and try them on a smaller scale to see what they look like. 

  Overall i am pleased with the project and the work i have produced and i really like the strong visual aspect to my typeface, but i feel more development could have gone into the way the typeface connected together and the eligibility of some of the letters.
